Brown Bag Lunches are informal informative events held over lunch (to be provided) where a scientific expert provides a short and provocative view on a specific policy topic, followed by an open discussion with the participants. This event, hosted by the European Marine Board, will feature Prof. Hilary Kennedy of Bangor University delivering the address. Prof. Kennedy is a leading expert in the field of Blue Carbon, which covers organic carbon that is captured and stored by the oceans and coastal ecosystems. The scientific community has increasingly begun to recognise the critical role of vegetated coastal ecosystems of seagrass meadows, tidal marshes, and mangrove forests in mitigating climate change due to their capacity to sequester and store more carbon per unit area than terrestrial forests.
