Invitation to ‘the Food From the Oceans meeting with Stakeholders’

The High Level Group of Scientific Advisors (HLG), which was set up in the context of the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) of the European Commission has been tasked by the Commission to provide advice based on scientific evidence on the issue of food from the oceans. In relation to this, a meeting will be conducted with relevant stakeholder representatives who are mostly from civil society and businesses. The objective is to present the main draft elements of the advice under consideration by the HLG and to gather the views of stakeholders. 

Aquaculture UK Exhibition

The Aquaculture UK Exhibition 2018 will take place in Aviemore from 23-24 May. Conference on Ocean Observation Systems

With the establishment of the European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) as a coordinating framework for better alignment and integration of Europe´s ocean observing capacity, and the results from its recent stakeholder consultation, it is appropriate to reflect on the role Eurocean Members, complementary initiatives such as those of the European Research Vessel Operators (ERVO) and other public and private stakeholders can play in developing and supporting an EOOS action plan

Marine Plastics Need European Action

A short event, entitled ‘Marine Plastics Need European Action’ will be hosted by Ricardo Serrão Santos MEP from 18:00-20:00 at the IUCN European Regional Office in Belgium, Brussels. The conference discussion will focus on the major issue of plastic waste in the ocean, an issue becoming alarmingly more important over time.  Growing scientific evidence and an increase in public awareness on the sources of plastic waste and their impacts on marine and coastal environments, demonstrates the need for more action at European level.

European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Information event

The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) will hold an info day on 9 November 2017. This day will mainly revolve around releasing information on the new "Sustainable blue economy call", which has been a given a total budget in excess of €14 million.The reuslts of the call will be published under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund by the end of October 2017.

There are four strands to the call that will help promote fostering the Blue Economy across Europe:

Policy Learning Event on Research & Innovation and SME Competitiveness

The Policy Learning platform of the INTERREG project will host a conference from 19-20 October 2017. The Policy learning event will take place in Milan, Italy. The day two day event encompasses talks on a wide range of topics. The event is mainly focused on being centred around practical experience, with most of the events having an interactive element.

The two-day conference will focus on two topics:

6th European Marine Board Forum

The 6th EMB Forum, on "Implementing the UN 2030 Agenda: What role for marine science?" will promote and foster a greater role of the marine science community in supporting the ongoing work at international level to advance the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Forum for Recreational Fisheries and Aquatic Environment Conference

The European Parliament will host a conference titled 'Marine Protected Areas and recreational fisheries: Sustainable management and benefits' on 9 October 2017. The conference will cover a wide range of topics, some which include 'Marine Protected Areas in the EU', 'Capacity shortfalls and performance of Marine Protected Areas' and 'The social and community benefits of angling'. The event will be led by MEP Ricardo Serrão Santos. Lunch will be served at the event, which will run for a total of two hours from 12:30 - 14:30. Uhinak Congress

The Uhinak Marine Research Unit Congress will host a marine conference from 6 to 7 March 2018. The aim of Uhinak is to get to know the needs of agents facing climate change and to find out the scientific contributions to meet those needs. In order to achieve that objective, Uhinak sets out a multidisciplinary approach that brings together the different stakeholders: scientists, technicians, and administrations.

The conference is aimed at businesses, institutions and organisations in general, that act and see opportunities regarding the impact of climate change on the coast.

Marine Evolution 2018 Conference

The Marine Evolution 2018 Conference will take place from 15 to 17 May 2018 this year in Strömstad, Sweden.

The conference will take place over three days, in the beautiful Bohuslän region on the Swedish West Coast (listed as one of the “ten last great wildernesses in the world” by CNN), within the Kosterhavet Marine National Park, strategically located between major international airports in Oslo, Norway and Gothenburg, Sweden. It will host nine sessions, as well as excursion events, evening performances and time for discussions and relaxation. The venue is the Strömstad Spa.
