Workshop

Data Visualisation for Biology: a practical workshop on design, techniques and tools

This workshop will take place at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) - Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge, CB10 1SD, United Kingdom.

As biological datasets increase in size and complexity, we are moving more and more from an hypothesis-driven research paradigm to a data-driven one. As a result, exploration of that data has become even more crucial than in the past.

AMT4SentinelFRM International Workshop

The Copernicus Sentinel Atlantic Meridional Transect Fiducial Reference Measurements workshop will serve as a forum for discussing the performance of Sentinel -1, -2 and -3 at retrieving ocean colour, sea surface temperature in the open ocean and coastal environments. It will identify potential strategies for the validation of Sentinel missions in the future. The workshop will address four main themes:

IMBIZO V Marine biosphere research for a sustainable ocean: Linking ecosystems, future states and resource management

IMBER will hold its fifth IMBIZO (the Zulu word for a gathering) at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Woods Hole, MA, USA from 2-6 October 2017.

The theme of IMBIZO V will be: Marine biosphere research for a sustainable ocean: Linking ecosystems, future states and resource management

The usual IMBIZO format of three concurrent but interacting workshops will be followed. The three workshops are:

COFASP Final Conference and Workshops "Cross border research - a great chance for the Marine and Maritime sector"

The Cooperation in Fisheries, Aquaculture and Seafood Processing (COFASP) final conference entitled "Cross border research, a great change for the Marine and Maritime sector" will take place on Thursday 8 December 2016 in Wissenschaftszentrum Kiel, Fraunhofer Straße, 24118 Kiel, Germany. This event will provide an overview of the COFASP main outcomes, including a general introduction about the scope and achievements, a presentaton of the COFASP Strategic Research Agenda, challenges for the community, the uptake and further development of COFASP outputs and more.

Workshop: Best Practices for Biological Resource Centres – Long-term Preservation, Reproductive Technology, Genetic Resources & Containment

The European Marine Biological Research Infrastructure Cluster (EMBRIC) will accelerate the pace of scientific discovery and promote new applications derived from marine organisms in areas such as drug discovery, biotech, and aquaculture. To enable EMBRIC partners to offer top of the range facilities and services best practices and integrated training programs need to be developed.

Introduction to marine phytoplankton identification and taxonomy workshop

Scope

The workshop will give participants the chance to discuss results from multiple time series providing phytoplankton data into the MSFD process throughout Europe, and ensure consistency in identification across multiple methods

Topic

The workshop will train early career scientists, technical and support staff in identification of key marine phytoplankton taxa. These skills are needed to monitor and predict future distributions and impacts of a changing environment.

Marine Imaging Workshop 2017

The Marine Imaging Workshop 2017 follows on from a successful 2014 workshop, and invites anyone using visual imagery in the marine realm: scientists, engineers, researchers, regulators, and industrial partners. The focus will be on developments and challenges in methods of marine optical imaging: imagery acquisition, processing and manipulation, annotation, segmentation and automated strategies, data management, application to scientific aims, and outlook and future developments.
