On August 1, 2017, a number of JPI Oceans member countries will launch a joint call for preproposals to study the environmental impacts and risks associated with seabed mining. This call is being conducted as a follow-up of the Joint Action on "Ecological aspects of deep-sea mining" under the framework of JPI Oceans. It calls for cruise proposals for the RV SONNE in early 2019 in the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone (CCZ), subequatorial eastern Pacific.

Interested participants are invited to express their interest in submitting a pre-proposal or joining a consortium by filling out their partner profiles on the following submission website, which will also function as a virtual brokerage space.

Submission of pre-proposals will be invited from August 1, 2017 and closes on November 1, 2017. Projects are expected to start from September 1, 2018 (Germany: July 1, 2018). Each application for a joint project must involve researchers from at least three funding partner countries.
