The Marine Institute is pleased to announce a call for proposals under the topic Marine Law and Ocean Governance under the Marine Research Programme. The Marine Institute invites applications for a Project-Based Award to be led by a senior Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Marine Governance and Ocean Law. The project will support a suitably qualified and motivated small team who will act as a focal point researching case studies, best practice and providing legal perspective and expertise to other research groups working in cross cutting areas such as socio-economics and marine spatial planning.
A detailed understanding of the law of the sea and the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy, together with a legal perspective of marine governance, are key enablers for all three goals in Harnessing our Ocean Wealth. Currently there is no specialist ocean law or marine governance academic group in Ireland. It is envisaged that the support of a senior Post Doctoral Research Fellow within this team, with a specialisation in ocean law and an active research interest in marine governance, will act as a catalyst between other groups working towards the implementation of Ireland's Integrated Marine Plan Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth. The team will support others such as socio-economic and marine spatial planning research groups, as well as the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), in increasing the knowledge base to support regulation and policy.
