SYKE is the Finnish Environment Institute. The activities of SYKE take place in seven centres: Freshwater, Marine Research, Natural Environment, Consumption and Production, Environmental Policy, Data and Information, and Laboratory centres. The main tasks of these centres are research, development and production of various services. Marine research at SYKE aims at producing information and new solutions that help decision-makers to promote the protection and sustainable use of the Baltic Sea. SYKE integrates a wide spectrum of marine research, catchment research, climate change research and socioeconomic research. This multidisciplinary research makes use of observations, experimental research, numerical models, prognoses and socio-economic studies. Moreover, SYKE administrates the research vessels Aranda and Muikku which are used for monitoring and research.
