The Institute of Marine Research (IMR) is seeking an experienced research scientist for a permanent position within ecosystem modeling. The position is placed in the research group Oceanography and climate, with work place in Bergen. The successful candidate will be a part of the bio-physical modeling team which seeks to assess and quantify various processes, changes in and interactions between the climate, marine environment, plankton, fish and humans.
The main responsibility for the position will be to actively participate in the development and funding of ongoing and future projects related to ecosystem modeling, especially development and maintenance of NORWECOM.E2E, but the candidate will also be involved in other ecosystem and drift modeling projects and projects within operational ocean modeling.
The successful candidate must have:
A PhD in oceanography, biology, mathematics or related fields.
Documented experiences within ecosystem modeling.
Excellent programming skills (e.g. Fortran or C).
Good scientific publication record.
Ability to work independently and in a team, as well as have good collaboration skills.
In addition, we appreciate:
Experience in data analysis with Matlab, Python or R.
Good understanding of marine ecosystem dynamics.
Interest and potential to work inter-disiplinary.
Have strong skills in written and verbal communication.
