The candidate is expected to conduct research designed to understand changes in ocean wave climate and the occurrence of abnormal or rogue waves at the Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht. Research should focus on both, analysis of occurrences of abnormally high waves as well physical mechanisms linking the occurrences with prevailing atmospheric and oceanic conditions together with their variability and long-term change. Regional focus will be in the North Sea while other areas may be considered in addition. The work will include numerical modelling and analysis of observational and model data. Specific tasks of the researcher will include adaptation of model source code, numerical model experiments and analysis and interpretation of model output and observational data in conjunction with theoretical concepts.
