Ma-Re seeks a Research Associate (UCT post-doctoral research fellow) as part of the international project “Humpback Whales in a Changing Climate”, in collaboration with Australia and other South African universities. The candidate will develop the modelling component of the project to study the role of ocean conditions in determining the migratory patterns in the Southern Ocean and along the eastern coast of South Africa. The candidates must have experience with the implementation of regional or global ocean numerical models, data analysis and visualization. A publication record of peer reviewed articles pertaining to ocean numerical modelling is required. Prior experience with the use of biogeochemical ocean models is preferred but not necessary. The candidates must have a completed Ph.D. by appointment start date and be within 5 years from graduation.
