Applicants should have a PhD and a strong conceptual and practical background in microbial ecology. The successful candidate will undertake research using a range of contemporary tools to explore the diversity and functional roles of marine fungi. Experience in some of following areas will be an advantage: collecting and processing seawater for RNA/DNA-based microbial diversity assessment, flow cytometry, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), application of isotope-based tools (e.g. stable isotope probing, PFLA analysis) and metatranscriptomics with associated bioinformatics. Specific experience with fungi or marine microbes is not essential.
