The Marine Biological Association (MBA) are looking for a highly motivated and independently working postdoctoral research scientist with interests in microbiology to be part of the five year European Research Council (ERC) funded MYCO-CARB project. The MYCO-CARB project will combine complementary methodologies to determine the underpinning biological machinery and ecological roles of marine fungi, including establishing their importance in the marine carbon cycle.
Applicants should have a PhD and a strong conceptual and practical background in microbiology. The successful candidate will undertake research using a range of contemporary tools to explore the functional biology of marine fungi. Experience in some of following areas will be an advantage: isolation and cultivation of microorganisms, enzyme/protein analysis, microscopy (e.g. confocal laser scanning microscopy), proteomics and transcriptomics with associated bioinformatics. Specific experience with fungi or marine microbes is not essential.
